“Uh-lap-uh-haw” is the pronunciation I hear most regularly, Lynette. Listen to the first few seconds of this video — however, some people prefer the last syllable to be shorter as in “ha.” Seminole, Cherokee, and Creek Native American tribes were all in the South Georgia region. The name of the city means either “smiling sunshine” or “laughing waters” — there is a 200-mile Alapaha River running into North Florida. I always look forward to your insightful commentary — you and I could spend days comparing notes — but I have a feeling I’d be the one asking you all the questions — your whole existence has been an exotic adventure which makes me envious — we still don’t have a traffic light!
